Ti-6Al-4V ELI titanium alloy powder for the production of orthopedic implants, for dental implants and for medical instruments from Signer Titanium AG.
Titanium alloy powder Ti-6Al-4V (titanium with 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium) is characterised by excellent mechanical properties, low specific weight and good corrosion resistance. Grade 23 (known as Ti-6Al-4V ELI) has lower interstitial element limits and is considered the higher purity version. Ti-6Al-4V ELI has increased ductility and fracture toughness with a slightly lower strength than the usual Ti-6Al-4V, which is due to the lower proportion of interstitial elements.
One manufacturing process for Ti-6Al-4V powder is plasma atomization, which results in excellent sphericity and a low proportion of residual elements such as oxygen.
For additive manufacturing, knowledge of particle size is important and flowability can also play a role. Particle size is usually expressed in microns or mesh: -63/+20 µm (-230/+635 mesh), i.e. particles larger than 20µm and smaller than 63 µm. The largest particles are determined by sieving, the smallest by sighting (light scattering).
Signer Titanium offers a wide range of different powders for additive manufacturing. Powder of the alloy Ti-6Al-4V ELI is available from stock. We will be happy to advise you.
