The MediPlas system is based on cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) and can be integrated into applications as a component for cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization.
The MediPlas system consists of two parts: the reactor and the driver. The ozone generator, which is based on dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) technology, is at the heart of the system, producing ozone and other reactive gaseous species depending on the input gas that passes through the discharge area. The generator is powered by an electric driver that supplies the required high voltage at a specific frequency to generate reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS). The generator has an active cooling unit that regulates reactor temperature and a fan that prevents overheating and extends its lifespan. To achieve the desired species composition, the operating parameters of the reactor and the input gas can be adjusted.
The composition of the output gas depends on the input gas (composition, flow rate, and humidity), the power density (input voltage and pulse width modulation), and the process temperature (current into the thermo-electric cooler and input voltage). For example, the highest ozone concentration can be achieved using pure oxygen, high gas flow, low process temperature, and high input voltage.
Using MediPlas for low-temperature sterilization enables:
- a customized output gas combination of ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and nitrogen oxide for tailored applications,
- an eco-friendly cleaning process as no added chemicals are required and shorter process times (energy savings), and
- a suitable cleaning for delicate surgical instruments.
